Day 4 & 5
After a busy week of travel from Gaborone, to Palapye, and to Francistown, we enjoyed a relaxed weekend. On Saturday evening we were kindly invited for dinner to Eunice and Robert’s home and we had a lovely time. Day 3 - African Sun Energy Solar visit
Today, the team attended our first site visit of the project - a solar farm! We met with engineers from African Sun Energy, before heading out to view some of their installation projects. Mechanical engineer, Tepo, taught us all about the inner workings of the solar panel modules and how they all link together to become such a successful renewable energy source in Botswana. Day 2 - Mabogo Junior secondary School
Today we attended our first school of the project, Mabogo Junior Secondary School in Palapye - and what a way to kick off our workshops. We began with a warm welcoming from the teachers and heads of school, and were greeted into the hall with a song from the pupils. We gave a brief introduction to engineering and then got started with our first class of the day, making paper straw rockets. Travelling, and Day 1
After a long 24 hours of travel, we successfully arrived in Gaborone, Botswana. We had a lovely welcome on our first evening at the UK High Commissioner residence, where we talked about everything from solar panels to Glasgow nightlife. We were greeted by the depute, Eunice, colleagues of the UK Commissioner, alumni of University of Glasgow, and Bear the dog! It was such a warm and delightful beginning to our trip.
