On Friday afternoon we met with 8 volunteers: students, graduates and professors from the University of Botswana and Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). We held a meeting in which we presented the ethos and mission of the FemEng society, the aims and objectives of our International Project and talked through the workshops we have planned.
This led to a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of our workshops, talking about how we tailor the workshops for different age groups and hope to sustain the attention of the students over the whole day. Measuring the long-term impact of the project and increasing project awareness on social media were key points in our discussion, as well as brainstorming more engineering fields our workshops can cover such as materials, mining and chemical engineering.
One of our priorities this year is to expolre methods to make our impacts more suistainable and long lasting. This discussion on how we can expand, improve and tailor our programme to better suit the audience in Botswana provided us with valuable suggestions which we will bring back to Glasgow to use in our local outreach programme. We were extremely grateful for the collaboration and feedback from like-minded STEMinists!💜
