En route to the airport on our final day in Botswana we visited HB Antwerp’s branch in Botswana. We got a tour of their labs where we learnt about the ecosystem. Starting from Genesis at which stage they collect the data of a specific stone and give it an ID. Followed by Awakening, where the potential of the stone is analysed using the four Cs (clarity, cut, colour, carat). The next stages called Prophecy, Exodus, Descendants and Afterlife involve the decisions on the stones outcome based on demand, then polishing, cutting into parent and baby diamonds.

And quite symbolically, the final day fell on the International Women in Engineering Day. We celebrated this important day at the airport and spent time reflecting on this incredible journey and how much we have learnt from all the pupils we have visited.
