After our first school visit on Thursday, we made a visit to the Tataki Mine, formerly known as Taki Nickel Mine. As the name suggests, it produces nickel, cobalt and copper. The mine has been in operation between 1995 and 2015 and has been maintained since. We have learnt about their old processes and also the new more environmentally-friendly process. The mine is currently researching new methods on how to further process the low grade materials that have been mined.

It was such a unique opportunity to see a mine in person and have every detail explained to us. We are very grateful to the team at Tataki Mine for taking the time to show us around and answer our many questions!
