We were kindly invited for a tour of the Sashe Dam and Water Processing Centre Facilities! It was a really insightful for our team and we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the teams for dedicating their time to show us around their facilities!

The dam was built in 1997, has a capacity of 85 million cubic meters and is around an 80 km perimeter. The water from this dam is treated and then distributed to Francistown and Tonota. We were fortunate enough to view the underwater valve system, which allows the operators to pick the depth of the pumped water, depending on the algae and mud concentrations. Afterwards, we were taken through the entire water treatment process. The process began with flocculation and coagulation in a settling tank separating the water from the sediment and particles. Next a rapid sand filter was used to reduce the turbidity of the water to less than 1 NTU. Lastly the water was disinfected using chlorine.
