We began the day with a courtesy call to the Ministry of Education of Kasane, where we introduced ourselves and the scheme, the first year in which FemEng has reached Kasane. One of the ministers then travelled with us to Kasane Primary School where we conducted 4 hours of workshops.

Our schedule consisted of a presentation of the engineering types, and then the straw rockets, balloon car, prosthetic hands and earthquake structures workshops. With this diverse range of workshops we clearly introduced 4 engineering fields and important problems. The students were engaged and eager to learn, and could recite all the engineering types including product design engineering by the end of the day! It was an important day for the project progression as we reach more isolated schools and inspire students at a disadvantage over those who live in the cities.

Kasane Primary School Head:
“They have benefited a lot from today’s presentations and activities. Even for us as teachers. Some of us here, we are generalists. We didn't specialise. You will find that to do science activities we will have to research because as a teacher we need to research more to impart the right knowledge to the students. But some of these activities have benefited us as teachers because we are impacted by the skills and knowledge. We have benefited a lot. It will benefit us especially with the science objectives, some of them are embedded in our science curriculum which is good for us.”
