Second workshop complete!
Today we held a workshop at Pelaelo Junior School for students aged 13-16. The team all went into these workshops with a lot more confidence than the last and we all coped very well with a total of 321 students.
We split the students into their years and then within that we split them into smaller groups, with each of us taking 107 students per pair/trio. The first workshop we completed with the them was a cardboard robotic hand, teaching them the basic principles of prosthetics and why it’s very important to ensure good control when designing a robotic hand. ✋🏼🦾
The students then hand their lunch break, with Liz and Jenny trying their school lunch which was beef and rice - nicer than the school lunches you get in the uk! 😋
After lunch we completed a paper tower challenge, where all the students were given the same amount of paper and they had to create the tallest tower using only the paper provided and tape. The students were very competitive when a prize of lolly’s were involved and lots of tall towers were made! 🍭 We again demonstrated the robot to the students, passing it around the Form 1 group who had many questions about how it was made. All the students were very inquisitive, with many being inspired into considering engineering as a career path.
We then went to Eunice’s for dinner where we met with Anita who has just graduated from the University of Botswana with a degree in electrical engineering.
Now we have the weekend to relax before a busy week starting Monday!
