Our first workshop has been completed!

We had our first workshop today at Tagala Primary, where  it was organised for 175 students, which doubled to 350 once we arrived! Nevertheless we all coped and Syona, our workshop convenor, had planned out 3 very successful workshops demonstrating civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering principles.

We were all slightly nervous before arriving, however, once we started to get into the flow of it, it was fantastic. All of the students were enthusiastic and really enjoyed the workshops, with many of them being very interested in Aerospace Engineering by the end after the rocket workshop. For this, they were to create a paper rocket which would fly as they blew through a straw which was inserted through the centre of the rocket. 🚀

We also had a bridge workshop to incorporate civil engineering. These bridges were created using a cardboard base, with paper pillar supports and string. Many of the children also added drawings to their bridges incorporating the Scottish flat and the flag of Botswana 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇧🇼

The mechanical workshop involved making cars with sails which would move as you blew on them. We provided wheels and axons and the students then designed their cars using straws, cardboard and paper which they then raced against each other. 🏎️

After our workshops, we got to show off our robot which all the students loved!

We all learnt a lot from our first workshop as none of us had worked with so many students before, however it turned out to be very successful and enjoyable for both the students and us!
