Day 10, 11 & 12 - Weekend Sightseeing

After a very busy week with workshops in Francistown, it was time to make our way up to Kasane, and we got to make some very exciting stops along the way! Our Friday began with a site visit to Shashe Dam, an 80km dam that supplies water to both Francistown and rural Francistown. We learned the history of the dam and asked plenty of questions as we walked alongside the water, before getting a tour of the filtration process from the intake of the water to it flowing through homes. It was fascinating to see the machinery and processing areas first hand.

Following our visit, we drove to Gweta, where we were picked up by our tour guide for our sleepout on the Makgadikadi Salt-pans - and what an incredible experience it was! We drove over the pans as the sun set before heading to our campsite for the night. The team fell asleep under the milk-way, surrounded by constellations we're not quite able to in Scottish night skies. An idyllic, out-of-this-word experience of pure tranquility. We woke up to sun peaking over the salt-pans and had a little visit to see one of the meerkat colonies near our campsite before heading back on the road to Kasane.

When we reached Kasane, we took a day trip over to Zimbabwe to see the beautiful Victoria Falls. After slightly underestimating how soaked we would be, we got kitted up into our raincoats and explored all of the gorgeous sights the falls had to offer. The 1,708 meters wide and 108 meters tall waterfall has the most picturesque scenery, and breathtaking views that we feel so lucky to have seen!
